Council tables discussion on designating an official newspaper

The city council on Thursday evening voted to table any discussion of designating a new official newspaper for the city until its January 17 meeting.  Council members expressed a desire to be able to hear from a representative of the Wimberley View before making a decision.  A representative of the News-Dispatch, a newspaper published in Driftwood for Wimberley and Dripping Springs, was present at the meeting.

Municipalities are required to designate an official newspaper to publish all of the city’s legal notices, such as zoning notifications, ordinance captions and notices of public hearings.  Currently, these items are published in the View, the official newspaper for several years.

Both the News-Dispatch and the View publish weekly editions on Thursday, and both are distributed in Wimberley by mail and in racks.  The city pays a publication its established classified advertising rates for legal notices.
